A Beginners Guide to Home Projects

The process of building or renovating a home can be a positive experience if you begin with the right outlook and steps to successfully create the image in your mind. With a couple tips and tricks, your dream home can be achieved.

  1. Realistic Measurement: At the onset of your renovation process, you are going to be ecstatic about the beauty of your future space. With the amount of ideas and thoughts running through your mind, you should remain realistic. Look at the space you have to work with and make a list of the must-haves you want. Once you have a list created, an efficient project is to cut out paper in the size and shapes of each piece you are buying or keeping. As you move each piece of paper around your space, you can see firsthand how furniture, tables and open spaces would fit into and fill the redone area. You could also do this for walls if you are thinking about replacement windows, paintings or mirrors.

  2. Organization: Whether it is the person you will be working with, your time frame, maintenance or what your space is going to end up like, you have no choice but to be organized. Keep a folder with tabs for each part of your renovation. This way you can keep all receipts organized for later reference, for your taxes, as well as any to-do lists. There are also apps out there to keep your visions organized, such as Homezada or Adornably. Yes, there’s an app for that.

  3. Cleanliness: Keep the disarray of renovation to a minimum by consistently staying on top of cleaning. Purchase wall cleaners, floor covers or any extra paint you could need for touch ups along the way. Throughout your renovation, focus on cleaning replacement windows, doors and cover furniture to keep your space looking brand new. At the completion of your project, you will be happy with a clean space that has been maintained through the entire process. Instead of mopping and dusting, you will be enjoying your new space right away.

  4. Budget: Your budget is the largest aspect of renovation. To remain on track, research constantly to discover the best deals. Although you want to save money, you must research, read reviews or receive a reference from a friend you trust to be sure the deal is worth the cash in your pocket. It would be hard to spend the entirety of your budget on a job that isn’t done well. Your money plan also comes into play when you are pondering big purchases. Items like replacement windows could cost more at the beginning. You may have to pick and choose between two large items, or sacrifice multiple smaller details. Each move you make is important; the pieces you decide on will make a statement in your space for years to come. Whatever your budget is, you must be ready for a thorough decision making process.
